Waking up on the wrong side of the bed means that you’ll probably spend the whole day grumpy as heck, demotivated, and feeling particularly resentful of everyone. This can be really damaging not only to yourself but also to your career and your relationships with people. That’s why it is of the utmost importance that you start the day right.

If you have no idea how to go about with this, no worries! We’re here to help you. Scroll down below to see the steps that you can do in the morning to ensure that every waking day ends up feeling like an accomplished dream and not a tedious nightmare.

Step 1: Pray

Praying is the first step since this is the most important. Pray immediately after waking up, when your senses are still a bit clouded and you’re still stirring from the drowsy haze of sleep. Give thanks to God for the new day that He has deigned to grant you, and for all of the blessings that have come your way. Don’t forget to ask for forgiveness for your transgressions and sins, and also to ask for guidance and protection. You will especially need the latter as you go about your workday.

A good guide when crafting a prayer is ACTS – Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. The first part is you telling God how much you appreciate and love Him, the second is asking forgiveness for your sins, the third is thanking God for your blessings, and lastly, the fourth is asking requests from God. Always keep in mind that today is a gift from God, that is why we call it as the “present.”

Step 2: Make a mental list of your priorities for the day

Before starting the day, it is important that you know exactly what your priorities are for the whole shift. What is expected of you in a single work day? Do you need to accomplish a part of a larger project today so that you wouldn’t be behind schedule when the deadline approaches? What are other supplemental tasks that your boss can give you for the day? Being organized is a useful skill that you can utilize for just about any job.

Also, ticking off items in a list that you prepared can be very satisfying, giving you a fair sense of accomplishment and pride in your work.

Step 3: Do some light exercises

According to several scientific studies, doing some light exercises in the morning is guaranteed to make you feel great for the whole day. Other than warming you up for the day ahead, exercising in the morning, even just doing some light stretches, can help boost your brain power and even help reduce blood pressure. If you happen to work in a stressful environment, the latter will be of immense help in making you more energetic and productive at work without the debilitating headache brought by high blood pressure.

You can start with doing a couple of minutes’ worth of jogging or cycling around your neighborhood. If you don’t want to leave the house, you can do a couple of push-ups or jumping jacks instead. Other than preparing you for the workday, these light exercises can also help you keep your weight down and even sleep better later when you crash in after work.

Step 4: Keep in mind the things that drive you

Every morning, see to it that you have a few moments of valuable introspection time. Think of the things that drive you to be better, to succeed. Think of the journey that has specifically brought you to this moment and celebrate your little victories.
